The European standard for “Automatic
forced draught burners for liquid fuels”
DIN EN 267 has been revised as of No-
vember 2011. The EN 267 is henceforth
the mandated standard for the guidelines
of pressure equipment (for fuelled pres-
sure equipment with an average tempera-
ture > 110°C).

The reference value for nitrogen con-
tent in heating oil for the correction
of NO
x
measurements was reduced
from 140 mg/kg to 0 mg/kg.
This change takes into account the
fact that at the present, because of the
low level of sulphur in heating oil,
the nitrogen concentration normally
lies under the original reference
level of 140 mg/kg. In practice this
overstated reference value led to sur-
charges, which put extra light heating
oil at a disadvantage to natural gas
in NO
x
emissions. Using the new
reference value of 0 mg/kg for fuel/
nitrogen content, extra light heating
oil is a safe option for appropriate
applications in the future.
